The Embryology Laboratory

The Embryology Laboratory is used for practical work and plant tissue culture research. In tissue culture practicals, topics related to the definition and importance of plant tissue culture, benefits, types of culture, organogenesis, somatic embryogenesis, secondary metabolites, and their biosynthesis are discussed. The method of plant propagation through organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis is also explored, particularly for certain plants useful in agriculture, pharmacy, and horticulture.

Objectives :

  • Understand and explain the purpose, benefits, and developed methods in plant propagation, secondary metabolite production, and fundamental research in plant tissue culture.
  • Perform the necessary steps in plant tissue culture methodology.

Activities :

  • Education includes teaching students.
  • Research involves plant propagation, training in ornamental plant culture, and media preparation training for tissue culture.
  • Community engagement includes training in media preparation for tissue culture.

Equipment :

The laboratory is equipped with laminar airflow hoods, refrigerators, culture racks, magnetic stirrers, electric and non-electric autoclaves, digital pH meters, analytical balances (with a precision of 0.1 mg), shakers, centrifuges, water distillers, ovens, glassware, culture bottles, Petri dishes, glass stirrers, plastic pipettes, heat-resistant sleeves, forceps, masks, rubber gloves, desiccators, and air conditioning
