Enhancing Agricultural Products Processing to Boost the Economy in Nimbokrang District, Papua
On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, a seminar on agricultural product processing was held in Nimbokrang District, Jayapura Regency, Papua. Nimbokrang, located in the province of Papua, boasts abundant natural resources, yet its potential remains largely untapped, especially in agriculture, fisheries, and micro-scale processing industries. The current challenge lies in harnessing these natural resources effectively, which requires human resources support. However, Nimbokrang’s community still faces shortages in skilled labor.
The Community Service Learning Group (KKN) “Papua Emas” from UIN Sunan Kalijaga organized this seminar with the theme “Papua Berkarya: Agricultural and Fisheries Product Processing for Economic Enhancement in Nimbokrang District, Jayapura, Papua.” The event featured speakers Nurfitri Ekantari from the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries at UGM and Erny Qurotul Ainy from the Halal Center at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Both speakers emphasized the process of transforming raw agricultural products into certified halal goods. The seminar took place at the Nimbokrang Village Hall, combining in-person and virtual participation via Gmeet, with attendees including residents and small and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM) from Nimbokrang.
Tita Puspitasari, the Head of Nimbokrang Village, expressed full support for the KKN program currently operating in her community. She believes that Nimbokrang residents will actively contribute to the success of UIN Suka’s KKN initiatives. The collaboration between the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Jayapura Regency and the KKN Papua Emas group at UIN Suka aims to provide innovation, knowledge, and motivation to the community. Ultimately, this program seeks to empower residents to optimize agricultural and fisheries products, expand their market reach globally, and enhance the local economy.
