Managing Water Resources for Sustainable Human Rights Over Water - Waterforum Kalijogo
Waterforum Kalijogo hosted a seminar and workshop titled “Managing Water Resources for Sustainable Human Rights Over Water” on April 4, 2019. The event took place in the theatrical hall of the Faculty of Science and Technology at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The seminar and workshop featured guest speakers: Dr. Ir. Agus Maryono, an expert in river hydrology and a faculty member in water resources at Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Mrs. F. F. Sri Purwani S.S., M.I.P., a member of the Yayasan Penabulu Yogyakarta association. The event was organized to commemorate “World Water Day,” which falls on March 22.
The seminar, titled “Managing Water Resources for Sustainable Human Rights Over Water,” discussed the sustainability of water resources and how we can collectively manage them. It emphasized the importance of using existing water resources fairly while maintaining their ecological balance.
The event included two workshops: the “Zero Waste Workshop” focused on composting, guided by Ms. Dias Idha Pramesti S.Si., M.Si. It covered the stages of composting organic waste into plant-friendly organic fertilizer. The second workshop, “River Health Assessment (RHA) or Riparian Biomonitoring Workshop,” was led by Ms. Eka Sulistyowati M.A., MIWM, and Ms. Siti Aisyah S.Si., M.Si. This workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of water environment conditions, particularly in rivers. The RHA workshop took place along the Gajah Wong River, specifically east of the GOR futsal field at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Participants were divided into four groups and took turns attending the workshops.
The seminar and workshop received enthusiastic participation from various groups, including students, scholars, and environmental activists in Yogyakarta. Nearly 50 people attended the seminar and workshop.
