Workshop Review of Biology Curriculum Syllabi (RPS)
The Biology program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga organized a workshop on developing curriculum syllabi (RPS) as part of the implementation of the “Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka” (Independent Learning, Independent Campus) program. The workshop took place on September 10, 2021. The guest speaker for this event was Prof. Dr. Paidi, M.Si., from the Biology Education Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
During the workshop, the guest speaker emphasized the significance and urgency of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in academic activities at higher education institutions. Understanding OBE is crucial before systematically implementing it through the development of RPS. The speaker provided examples of RPS developed based on OBE principles.
To prepare for the event, RPS for each course offered in the fall semester of 2021/2022 were drafted. However, one of the main challenges encountered was formulating the Competency Standards (CPMK). After the speaker explained the criteria and RPS format according to the standards set by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (SN Dikti), discussions were held to address any difficulties. Accurate development and preparation of RPS are essential for effective learning processes. Therefore, a direct review of previously independently prepared RPS by Biology faculty members was conducted to identify any areas for improvement.
The follow-up action from this RPS development workshop includes a more thorough review of the existing RPS and the preparation of OBE-based RPS for courses in the upcoming semester.
