Seminar on Aksara Tilu Results for the Revitalization of the Environmental Study Center (PSLH) and Biology Study Group (KS)
The Aksara Tilu seminar took place on September 12, 2022, at the Teatrikal Hall of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The guest speaker for this event was Mr. Raafi Nur Ali. During the seminar, the speaker discussed the expedition’s background, objectives, benefits, location overview, data collection objects, and data collection methods. Notably, the speaker highlighted fascinating wild plant and animal species found in Gunung Tilu, including various Ficus species and captivating animals like Javan Leopard, various beetles, Javan Slow Loris, Javan Surili, Javan Langur, and Binturong.
The event proceeded smoothly, with enthusiastic participation from the audience. Attendees included both the general public and students from the Biology Study Program. Engaging discussions and numerous questions characterized the session.
Some audience members posed interesting questions. For instance, they inquired about bird identification based on sound. The speaker explained that bird identification through sound involves recording bird calls in the field using a smartphone. The recorded data are then input into the Ravenpro software on a PC, and the resulting audiograms are cross-referenced with the Ebird website. Another question revolved around the challenges of field data collection. The speaker emphasized common obstacles faced by researchers, such as challenging terrain and rapidly changing weather conditions from sunny to heavy rain.
Lastly, an audience member asked whether BIOLASKA would explore other taxa like mammals and fish. Currently, BIOLASKA focuses on five taxa: Herpetofauna, Dragonflies, Birds, Butterflies, and Orchids. However, there is potential for future expansion to include other groups like mammals and fish
