Guest Lecture: Food Microbiology

To prepare students for rapid technological advancements, universities must ensure that students are equipped with the necessary competencies. Higher education institutions are expected to enhance the quality of education through innovative teaching processes, allowing students to achieve optimal learning outcomes in terms of attitude, knowledge, and skills. To support this goal, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture introduced the “Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka” (MBKM) policy. MBKM grants students the freedom to participate in learning activities beyond their study programs and campus boundaries. The concept of “Kampus Merdeka” promotes autonomous and flexible learning environments within higher education institutions, tailored to students’ needs.

The Biology Study Program (Prodi Biologi) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga actively supports the government’s efforts to enhance educational quality through the implementation of MBKM. One way Prodi Biologi contributes is by inviting guest lecturers who specialize in various biological fields, including government or private institutions, industry experts, and practitioners. These guest lectures aim to provide students with valuable learning experiences, foster innovation and creativity, address student needs, and promote self-reliance.

The guest lecture on food microbiology was held in person on September 18, 2022, in the theatrical hall of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The topic focused on the role of bacteria in food. The event proceeded smoothly, and the high level of student enthusiasm was evident from the large attendance
