Biological Professionalism Training: Animal Handling
On Friday, November 3, 2023, the Biology Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta conducted a professional training session. This training has been a regular activity since 2019, aimed at enhancing students’ skills in laboratory work. The event took place in the Biology Laboratory on the third floor from 08:30 to 11:30 AM. The session began with an opening by MC Vidia, a Biology student from the 2020 cohort, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem and the UIN Sunan Kalijaga hymn by all participants.
Next, the Head of the Biology Program, Dr. Najda Rifqiyati, M.Si., delivered a welcoming address. She discussed the origins of the professional training and its objectives. In 2023, this training has already been conducted offline three times, and this session marks the fourth for the year. The main content was presented by our guest speaker, Dr. Laksmindra Fitria (a Biology lecturer from UGM), moderated by Ms. Siti Fatimah S.Kp.G., MPH. The speaker covered topics such as the essential characteristics of research mice, proper environmental conditions for mouse care, and necessary cage conditions.
Following the presentation, participants received hands-on training in the Integrated Laboratory on how to handle mice. The session concluded at 11:30 AM. We hope this training benefits our students in their future endeavors.
