Review of Vision, Mission, and Curriculum of the Biology Program in 2019

The Biology Program recently engaged in a thoughtful exchange of ideas and conducted an assessment to collectively map graduate competencies and stay abreast of dynamic scientific developments. This activity took place on November 7, 2019, with Prof. Drs. Sutiman Bambang Sumitro from Brawijaya University as the guest speaker. He provided five key recommendations for the curriculum of the Biology Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

  • Overcoming Curriculum Implementation Challenges: Prof. Sumitro emphasized the common challenges faced during curriculum implementation.
  • Intensive Interdisciplinary Discussions: To optimize curriculum achievement, intensive discussions among different fields of study are essential.
  • Integration of Al-Qur’an and Hadith with Learning: The integration of religious texts into teaching is crucial.
  • Understanding Imbalance and Its Impact: Concepts of change leading to imbalances can have consequences, including disasters or damage.
  • Research Integration in Teaching: A research-based approach, aligned with Al-Qur’an principles, should be integrated into teaching.

These recommendations aim to bridge Islamic values and insights with students, address local wisdom and sustainability issues related to conservation efforts, and equip Biology graduates from UIN Sunan Kalijaga with essential skills such as effective communication, critical thinking, open-mindedness, and networking for their future careers and community engagement.
