Enhancing Student Skills: Biology Training During the Pandemic
During the 2020/2021 academic year, the Biology Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta organized the Biology Training 2020. This training consisted of several sessions, covering not only biology-related topics but also English language skills. The training took place from October 1st to November 28th, 2020, and involved both active biology students and alumni from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
The first session, held on October 1st, 2020, focused on Ecoprinting with guest speaker Muhammad Wisnu, M.Biotech. Participants learned about the process of creating ecoprints and the necessary materials. The eco-printing content was delivered through video, followed by a Q&A session with the speaker. Subsequent sessions delved into English language skills, covering academic writing and the English Proficiency Test, facilitated by experts from Lister Trainer. These language-focused sessions occurred in mid-October. Later in October, the Biology Training continued with a session on Orchid Cultivation and Research, led by Aldy Badahuri, M.P.
In November, the Biology Program resumed training sessions. It began with a focus on Aquaponics led by RR Rahmi Sri, M.Sc. This was followed by a two-part session on Mycology, covering Trichoderma as a natural pesticide (presented by Annisa Khoiriyah, M.Sc) and the utilization of Ganoderma mushrooms (led by Martha Purnami, M.Biotech). The final session of the Biology Training explored protein structure design and its applications, presented by Nasrullah Harino Al Ghifari, M.Biotech. Notably, he not only discussed protein structure design but also encouraged students to consider further studies abroad. The training sessions were conducted via Zoom due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic
