NGOPI (Smart Biology Chat) #1
NGOPI (Smart Biology Chat) session 1 for the year 2021 was held by the Biology Study Program on May 10, 2021, virtually (via Zoom) from 08:00 to 10:00. NGOPI is a casual discussion activity between faculty members and students outside of regular academic hours. The topics covered in this event aren’t limited to trending subjects; they also delve into recent research. The goal is to broaden students’ understanding of the world of Biology. The plan is to hold this activity every two weeks.
The theme for the first NGOPI session in 2021 was “The Potential of Organic Waste as Environmentally Friendly Organic Fertilizer.” The speaker for this session was Ms. Siti Aisah, M.Si., an Ecology lecturer at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The event began with an opening address by the committee chair and MC, Ms. Satiti Ratnasari, M.Si. Following that, a representative from the Biology Program, Ms. Siti Aisah, M.Si., shared her thoughts. Through NGOPI, the Biology Program aims to encourage research ideas and insights into practical applications of Biology from students. Additionally, students themselves can become speakers in NGOPI sessions, sharing their research findings to inspire fellow Biology students.
The session continued with the speaker discussing the potential of organic waste as organic fertilizer. She explained waste separation and how to process it into organic fertilizer. After the presentation, students engaged in a Q&A session about organic fertilizer production. The event had a total of 62 participants, including active Biology students from the 2017 to 2020 cohorts.
