Professionalism Training in Biology: Microbiological Testing for Processed Foods

The Biology program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta organized the 7th Professionalism Training, attended by both students and alumni. The event took place on September 11, 2021, with the theme “Introduction to Microbiological Testing for Processed Foods” presented by Aditya Anugerah Marusaha Sitorus, S.Si. The training aimed to enhance the skills, knowledge, and preparation of biology graduates in understanding the application of microbiology in food testing.

The session began with the agenda read by Nur Fiddaryani, followed by the Indonesian national anthem and the UIN Sunan Kalijaga hymn. Shilfiana Rahayu delivered a speech on behalf of the head of the Biology program, Najda Rifqiyati, M.Si., who was unable to attend.

The core of the event featured a presentation by guest speaker Bapak Aditya, moderated byAgessty Ika Nurlita, S.Si., M.Si., a faculty member in the Biology program. Mr.Aditya discussed the introduction to microbiological testing for processed foods, covering topics such as the organizational structure of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan POM), testing references and parameters (especially for microbiological testing), laboratory equipment compliance with standards, and technical aspects of microbiological testing for processed foods. He explained techniques for inoculating microbes using various media and different types of microbiological tests, as well as the minimum microbial requirements for processed foods and cosmetics. The session concluded with a Q&A session, and the training ended at 11:30 AM WIB, followed by recognition and awards for the most active participants during the training.
