Biology Students Win 1st Place in the National OASE PTKI Competition

Biology students Fahrul Nurkholis, Reza Sukmadewi, and Dwi Kristanto emerged as one of the finalist teams in the National Olympiad of Religion, Science, and Research for Islamic Higher Education (OASE PTKI) I across Indonesia. The OASE competition took place from November 25 to 28, 2021, with the host institution being Ar-Raniry State Islamic University in Banda Aceh. In this highly competitive event, 140 universities participated, totaling approximately 2,900 students from both public and private Islamic higher education institutions. UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta successfully advanced 14 teams to the OASE finals.

Among the 18 students representing UIN Sunan Kalijaga in the final, Fahrul Nurkholis, Reza Sukmadewi, and Dwi Kristanto formed a team specializing in Nanotechnology and Health Products. Their research project was titled “Microencapsulation Formula of Seagrass Extract: Anti-Obesity and Anti-Aging Properties Coated with NanoChitosan.” Under the guidance of Mrs. Dian Aruni Kumalawati, M.Sc., the team underwent rigorous preparation before heading to Aceh for the final competition. On November 28, 2021, the winners were announced, and the Biology team secured the 1st place in the Nanotechnology and Health Products category. May this achievement inspire other Biology students to actively participate in academic and non-academic competitions.
