Professionalism Training in Biology: “Biocomposting”
On Saturday, May 21, 2022, the Biology Program organized its professional training for the year. In this second episode, the program focused on “Biocomposting,” featuring Aminudi (CEO of Biomagg) as the guest speaker. The virtual event began at 9:00 AM and was opened by the MC.
Shilfiana Rahayu, M.Sc., the head of the training committee, delivered a welcome address. Aminudi then presented Biomagg’s background as an urban organic waste processing company (via video presentation). Biomagg, founded in 2016, employs bioconversion technology for waste management. Their circular food economy concept ensures that city-processed waste becomes fertilizer for rural farmers. Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae are used by Biomagg due to their non-harmful, non-disease vector properties. These BSF maggots naturally break down organic waste, achieving three times faster decomposition than conventional composting methods. Biomagg also engages in maggot-rearing processes. Their product, Magobox, is designed for household-scale waste management. The session concluded with a discussion among participants.
