Professionalism Training in Biology: Ecoprint

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, the Biology Study Program organized a Professionalism Training in collaboration with the Botany Study Group at UIN Sunan. The event was part of the Research and Creativity Division and the Media and Publication Division. Conducted online via Zoom, the training began at 9:00 AM WIB and continued until completion. The focus of this session was “Eco Print.” Muhammad Wisnu, S. Si. M. (a Coprinting enthusiast and lecturer at UMS), delivered the material, emphasizing the potential of local plants for ecoprinting. The training aimed to facilitate skill development and enhance participants’ understanding, particularly among Botany Study Group members.

The content covered basic knowledge about ecoprinting and included simple tutorials on its creation. Eco-print is a technique used to create patterns on fabric using natural materials like leaves and various plant types. Two fundamental techniques in eco-printing are steam and pounding. Steam involves steaming fabric with arranged leaves, rolling it tightly, and securing it to prevent bleeding. Pounding entails hitting leaves onto fabric to extract their colors. One of the plants suitable for eco-printing is the teak leaf. The resulting products can vary, including fabric, clothing, tote bags, and even umbrellas—suitable not only for mothers but also for young people. After the presentation, the session continued with discussions and Q&A among participants, concluding at 11:30 AM.
