MBKM with Kampung Satwa
One of the learning activities under the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is participating in internships. These internships aim to provide students with practical work experience and deeper learning in the field. In addition to the internships conducted in collaboration with BRIN, the Biology program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta also organizes internships at Kampung Satwa (Animal Village) in Moyudan, Sleman, DIY. Kampung Satwa is an ecotourism village located in the Kedung Banteng area of Sumberagung, Moyudan, Sleman, in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This village offers education related to wildlife, plants, and the environment, and serves as a study site for the conservation of rare Indonesian wildlife. It provides an opportunity for people to directly interact with animals not commonly found in their local surroundings.
During the first semester of 2023-2024, the Biology program conducted an internship program at Kampung Satwa for five students. These students—Zidni Amaliyatul H, Vidia Fadilah R, Rufia Islamiatun, Rahma Salisa, and Rachma Meylinda—are from the 2020 cohort. Throughout the internship, their experiences will be converted into credits for relevant courses based on their interests. Some of the courses that can be converted during this internship process include Ornithology, Mammalogy, Project Management, Herpetology, Presentation Skills, Animal Ecology, and Biomonitoring. In addition to their specific research themes, the students also assist with activities organized by Kampung Satwa. At the end of the semester, these five students will undergo final assessments through presentations evaluated by both their field supervisors (from Kampung Satwa) and the relevant course instructors. Hopefully, this internship program will motivate other students to actively engage in MBKM activities.
